Each morning of every sitting day in March from 7.15am to 8.15am - come join us at the main entrance to Parliament House - to reinforce to our elected representatives that we demand a climate safeguard mechanism that:
* rules out new coal & gas
* only has carbon offsets as a temporary last resort

This is a peaceful, family friendly event. There will be plenty of signs and banners available - or make and bring your own.

Join Extinction Rebellion Victoria for a 2-part online workshop exploring the ins-and-outs of taking non-violent direct action for the planet, hosted by experienced NVDA trainers and activists Louise, Jane C and Ro - members of XRVic’s NVDA training team and inspiring and experienced facilitators with literally decades of NVDA training behind them - Louise with the Nonviolence Network Jane in the UK Peace Movement and XRVic and Ro in the Franklin Dam resistance movement.

2023 will see more actions and higher stakes than ever. If people feel safe to take part in NVDA, greater numbers of people will become involved. You can amplify the impact of the sacrifices made by activists such as Violet CoCo and other brave rebels facing prison. Let them inspire you to action, whatever your capacity. There are vital arrestable and non-arrestable roles in every action. Now is the time to start thinking about how you can support and participate.

This highly interactive training workshop will be invaluable to Rebels old and new in preparing to take nonviolent action safely, rationally and regeneratively. It is an excellent primer for new rebels and is critical for rebels who haven’t been arrested but are thinking about it and for those who wish to play support roles at actions where arrests are planned. For many previously trained rebels it also serves as a refresher. The workshop is also a great opportunity to meet other rebels, hear their XR stories and learn to work together to build community.

Together we will explore:

· Forms of Power

· Theory and effectiveness of nonviolent action

· Radical flanks

· Affinity groups, support and regenerative culture

· Action roles

· Interacting with police and the law

· Consensus and consent-based decision making

· Your hopes, fears, priorities and next steps

· De-escalation

For everyone everywhere interested in Extinction Rebellion this talk, ‘Heading for Extinction (and what to do about it)’ is your entry point. We are facing climate and ecological catastrophe, and time is running out. Our political system is broken and our leaders are failing to protect us.

Find out about Extinction Rebellion, an international movement using non-violent mass civil disobedience as a tried and tested way to force governments to take the action that is needed.

'Heading for Extinction and what to do about it’ generally precedes the Non-Violent Direct Action (NVDA)/Civil Disobedience training. This introductory talk and NVDA training will help you get involved with the XR movement. We also run a weekly online orientation/Q&A space for new rebels: "Getting Started in XR", introduces you to Extinction Rebellion, how it works, what its aims, principles and values are, and how you can get involved. NVDA training is for those who want to participate in mass actions.

‘Heading for Extinction and what to do about it’ provides an up-to-date and honest picture of what is causing the climate emergency, and what needs to happen, urgently, to prevent the worst of climate disasters. There are opportunities for questions and discussion.

Mai was arrested on the final day of the Asia Pacific Oil & Gas Conference for refusing police orders to move after sitting down in front of a parked police van.

This protest was part of three days of disruptive action targeted at the major fossil fuel conference. The SA Government was a principle partner for the event.

While Mai's bail conditions were eased back in December, her case has now been adjourned three times!

“We put our bodies on the line as a last resort. We are desperate for change. There's too much at stake and very little time to act on it. We need to move away from fossil fuels as quickly as possible." said Mai before her court hearing in December.

"The prospect of an unlivable world scares me. Doing nothing about it scares me more.”
