What is XR?
Extinction Rebellion Australia is part of a worldwide movement to bring the planet back from the brink of climate catastrophe. At our core, we’re using civil disobedience to disrupt business as usual so that we can raise awareness and demand that our governments set a new course before it’s too late. It’s unforgivable to leave future generations to foot the bill for decades of corporate greed.
Extinction Rebellion (XR) is non-violent and when we act, we do it in full public view and take responsibility for our actions.
Our focus is on political change rather than personal change, but we welcome the latter. A better, safer future for everyone starts here.
Demands
Tell the Truth
Government must tell the truth by declaring a climate and ecological emergency, working with other institutions to communicate the urgency for change.
Act Now
Government must act now to halt biodiversity loss and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero.
Beyond Politics
Government must create and be led by the decisions of a Citizens’ Assembly on climate and ecological justice.

Following a cycle of action, reflection, learning, and planning for more action. Learning from other movements and contexts as well as our own experiences.

Breaking down hierarchies of power for more equitable participation.

We live in a toxic system, but no one individual is to blame.

Using non-violent strategy and tactics as the most effective way to bring about change.

We collectively create the structures we need to challenge power.
