XRSA: End Fossil Fuels Now
Extinction Rebellion South Australia is in the middle of waves of ongoing, disruptive civil disobedience actions targeting major events in which the fossil fuel industry partners with government. Join our End Fossil Fuels Now campaign!
The climate movement successfully pressured the South Australian government to declare a climate emergency. Now we are demanding deeds not words.
Wave 1 - Blockade the Asia Pacific Oil and Gas Conference
17th - 19th October 2022
The first wave of action began in October 2022 and centered on a blockade of the Asia Pacific Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition (APOGCE) at the Adelaide Convention Centre. This is the flagship regional event for the Society of Petroleum Engineers. Read our news item to find out what happened during the conference – and after!
Wave 2 - Santos Tour Down Under
13th - 22nd January 2023
In January 2023, Extinction Rebellion South Australia disrupted the TDU with actions day after day, exposing the greenwashing of a fossil fuel giant and demanding the government cuts ties with an industry that is killing us.
In the first actions of Wave 2 of the campaign, XR SA rebels glued themselves to a pile of bikes outside the head office of oil and gas producer Santos in Adelaide/Tarndanya. Rebels poured a trail of fake oil from the Santos building down onto the pile of bicycles and rebels.
Twelve rebels gatecrashed the TDU Team Presentations with a 'Dump Santos' message. See the News Item on this website.
In a women-focused protest during the Women's Stage One race at the Tour Down Under, XR SA rebels bared breasts and bums to passing cyclists, making the point that they will do ANYTHING to protect the people they love. See the News item on this website.
Also see the News item about the XR SA banner drop in Adelaide, and the support action by XR ACT, where a large group of cyclists swarmed through central Canberra on supported by walkers and disco dancers.
Pedal rebels David and Andrew completed the gruelling Tour Down Under Challenge Tour wearing ‘Dump Santos’ bibs. A solidarity action by XR Victoria followed, with a fun ride through Melbourne CBD and parkland with skeletons on bicycles. See the News item on this website.
In the final action of WAve 2, and moments before the Santos 'Tour Down Under' Criterium race, XR SA rebels threw black paint and wrote ‘Dump Santos’ across the building frontage. See the News item.
Wave 3 - Blockade APPEA
15th - 18th May 2023
More details coming soon.
XRVIC: Spring Rebellion '22
XR Vic's Spring Rebellion ’22: two weeks of putting the climate crisis back in the news, sent strong messages to stop destroying native forests, and stop fuelling the climate crisis.
In regional Victoria, and on the streets of Melbourne (Naarm), rebels came together to create a festival atmosphere as local and affinity groups, and individual rebels, drew on courage and creativity to fight for a safer future.
In the lead up to the Victorian state elections the range and variety of actions made it clear that grubby gas is not good and that forests are our future. To join in our actions check the Vic Actions on our Events page.
